Specification content Specification notes
A13
  • Sketch translations and reflections of a given function

The subject content (above) matches that set out in the Department for Education’s Mathematics GCSE subject content and assessment objectives document.

    The expectation is that:

    • All students will develop confidence and competence with the content identified by standard type
    • All students will be assessed on the content identified by the standard and the underlined type; more highly attaining students will develop confidence and competence with all of this content
    • Only the more highly attaining students will be assessed on the content identified by bold type. The highest attaining students will develop confidence and competence with the bold content.

    Egyptian Graph Dancing
An active task in which students use their arms to form the shape of given graphs and illustrate the relationship between transformed graphs. (Note: This activity includes some work on stretches which provides an extension beyond the specification. The last couple of slides on the graph of y=log(x) can be omitted.) You will need to register for a TES account to access this resource, this is free of charge. 21/08/2015
National STEM Centre - Trigonometrical Functions
This pack of resources contains some activities in which students must consider what equations are and are not possible for given graphical transformations. You will need to register for an account to access this resource, this is free of charge. 21/08/2015
Standards Unit: Activity A12 Exploring trigonometrical graphs
Students must match the transformed trigonometrical graphs with their equations, identifying key features such as the amplitude.21/08/2015
    Tangled Trig Graphs
Students must consider the diagram of 'tangled' trig graphs and use their knowledge of transformations to work out the equations of each graph.21/08/2015
Teachit Maths - Graph transformation blitz
Students must carry out a range of transformations to the given curve and write down the effect of various amendments to the equation of the curve in words. (Note: This activity includes some work on stretches which provides an extension beyond the specification.)21/08/2015
    Teachit Maths - transforming graphs
Card matching activity in which students must pair up the transformations of a given function with their equations (Note: This activity includes some work on stretches which provides an extension beyond the specification.)21/08/2015
    Transformation of Graphs
Students must identify which of the given graphs would have the required equation (Note: This activity includes some work on stretches which provides an extension beyond the specification.) You will need to register for a TES account to access this resource, this is free of charge. 21/08/2015
    Transformation of graphs starter
A starter activity suitable for use with in-class voting systems - students must choose which of the four possible multiple choice answers represents the given transformation (Note: This activity includes some work on stretches which provides an extension beyond the specification.) You will need to register for a TES account to access this resource, this is free of charge. 21/08/2015
    Transforming quadratic functions
An investigative worksheet which requires students to sketch a range of parabolas and use these to determine the effect of various amendments of the equation of the curve, eg y=(x-3)2. (Note: This activity includes some work on stretches which provides an extension beyond the specification.) You will need to register for a TES account to access this resource, this is free of charge. 21/08/2015
