The current GCSE has a greater focus on both Problem Solving (AO3) and Reasoning (AO2). We have produced a guidance document to assist teachers with their understanding of the requirements for each strand of AO2 and AO3.

 

We have also selected 120 questions from legacy specifications which exemplify each of the strands of these Assessment Objectives and would therefore be suitable questions for the current GCSE as well. The AO and strand are labelled as is the question paper source, in some cases questions have been tweaked to ensure that they accurately reflect the particular AO strand referenced. Legacy Specifications used include the Linked Pair GCSEs, Level 2 Certificate in Further Maths and Additional Maths GCSE (a GCSE in Problem Solving!).

 

The questions are arranged in approximate order of difficulty and divided into those suitable for Foundation tier only, common to both tiers, and those suitable for Higher tier only, as well as by Assessment Objective.
